Hey fresh minds,

I hope you liked David´s post last week. I found it really interesting; I had no idea we could find rare earths in so many products (even in  my phone?!).

Well, this week I’ve been very busy preparing Your Formula’s attendance at the Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) that will take place from 11 to 15 July.

Ruairi Quinn, TD, Ireland’s Education and Skills Minister

ESOF is Europe’s largest, general science meeting and is held in a leading European city every two years. This year the Forum is taking place in Dublin, the city of Science 2012. The programme, with over 60 events, celebrates “where creativity and great science meet”.

The excitement is brewing for ESOF2012, and I’ll be there with a camera, in Sherlock Holmes mode  to find more sustainable stories in science.

If you’d like to talk to us and tell us your stories and experiences, just drop me an e-mail at nuno@yourformula.eu . I’ll be pleased to meet you in person and discuss with you. In addition, Your Formula will have a few surprises for you.

If you can´t be there. No problem, I’ll be tweeting during the whole event, so  you can follow the debates and  high points  of the forum.

The Highlights include:

  • Keynote lecture by Jules Hoffmann, 2011 Joint Nobel Prize winner for Medicine
  • Policy Day on 13th July with the keynote address by Mrs  Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science,
  • A competition for creative minds from across the world to showcase their innovations as part of the Invention Convention.
  • A lecture by Jean-Jacques Dordain, Director General of the European Space Agency

Apart from this, ESOF 2012 has several distinct streams including the science-to-business and careers programme sessions, and at the core of the Dublin event is a strong science programme. Another integral programme stream is the ‘Science and the City’ element. According to David Fahy, ESOF 2012 Director, this programme ‘celebrates where creativity and great science meet and will provide scientific interchange opportunities between ESOF 2012 delegates and the general public.
